With so many heavily involved techniques out there these days, it is a nice refresher to learn one that takes minimal tools, supplies and "expertise". I have found that paper piercing can really just bring my projects up a notch in a very subtle way! So today I want to show you THREE ways to use paper piercing. First I will show you how to paper pierce using a guide, then I will show you how just a touch of paper piercing to frame an image can really add a POP! And then finally I want to open the door to paper piercing to OUTLINE an image. It is something I find sometimes people tend to overlook but can really be a boost to the projects over all! So please sit back and enjoy this three part technique on Paper Piercing!

Supplies Needed:
Paper Piercing tool, I have a fun little pink one but if you don't have a nifty tool like that just grab a needle, push pin or something else thin and POINTY! ( I have purchased all of my paper piercing tools at www.ellenhutson.com)

Paper Piercing Mat, again, I have a fun little mat but you can use a piece of corkboard, an old mouse pad or fun foam.

Paper Piercing Guide, Die Cut Shape, or Stamped Image....you have to have ONE of those hanging around! Smile
Cardstock, Ink and Embellishments to finish your projects. (full supplies lists can be found with the projects in the gallery)

Step One
To begin I will go over how to paper pierce using a piercing guide. First you need to make sure you are working on a nice firm flat surface. Lay your mat down, then your cardstock. Here I am working with a strip of Frosted Kiwi Prismatics.
Step Two
Being at one end and start piercing through the holes in the piercing guide.

I find that it is easier for me to work right to left so I am sure to hold my guide firmly and keep it level on the paper. I am right handed so if you are left handed you may want to go from left to right.

When you are piercing hold your piercing tool upright and straight and make sure you push the same distance into the cardstock with each pierce.
Step Three
Remove the guide to show your pattern. As you can see here I just pierced through part of the pattern because I only wanted a thin strip of piercing.
Step Four
Next I want to show you how piercing just the outside mat of your image can really add a nice touch. So here I have a Nestabilities Die Cut Scalloped Circle.
Step Five
Pierce just one hole in the middle of each scallop. Take care to pierce in the same spot of each scallop for a good precise pattern.
Finish Your Project
Using the two different pierced papers, finish your project. See how it makes a real difference to piece a few holes in your paper??
Piercing around a stamped image
Here I want to show you how piercing around a stamped image can really add pizazz to any project! So first stamp your image.
Pierce Around the Image
Next pierce around the outside of the outer star and around the inside of the inner star.
Color your image
Here I decided to color outside the star to the papers edge and then inside the inner star.

Finish your second project
Add your finished piece to your card base to finish your paper pierced project!

And of course, we want to see your paper pierced projects!!! So have some fun, and upload your finished projects to the gallery and link back here so we can all be sure to enjoy your handiwork!

Hee hee - you could just check out my gallery for any number of pierced cards but I'll try to do a new one! I love the idea of piercing round a shape and I never think to do that so maybe I'll give that one a go as something new.

Thanks Keri!

Oh pretty, Keri. I love using my Ornare templates too. I only wish I had the energy for stamping right now. This morning I had oral surgery, and the bleeding hasn't stopped yet. Hubby made me a milkshake for supper cuz I can't chew anything. I don't think ya want me around sharp pokey objects right now. LOL

Great cards! I love paper-piercing... I usually just do straight lines or corners... but I am always looking for templates... TFS!
