CHF Designer, Alli Miles has a wonderful and whimsical style that shines in this fantastic project. Get a jump start on your holiday cards with Alli's step-by-step instructions for paper pieced cards.

....

As the holiday season approaches, even those with good intentions may find themselves scrambling to put together a few last minute cards. One of the quickest and most efficient ways to put together a card is by paper piecing. Paper piecing is such a fabulous technique because you are able to 1) use up your scraps and 2) add texture and color to your images.

Tonight I have put together two simple cards using this technique and will help show you how to efficiently use all those leftover items in your craft room.

Supplies Needed:
Step One
Once you have collected your supplies, using two sheets of white paper begin by cutting your card bases to size 4.25x5.5 You’ll notice that I have two types of cut cards 1) 4.25 in height and 5.5 in length 2) 4.25 in length and 5.5 in height. With these cuts you should have 4 cards altogether.

Step Two (for Tree Cards Only) - Part A
A) Emboss 2 squares using the square nestabilities and white paper
a) Place your spellbinders rubber mat on the white board
b) Place your paper on the rubber mat
c) Place your large and slightly smaller nestabilities dies so they fit together, with no overlap (otherwise you risk damaging your dies)
d) Place a piece of scrap computer paper over top of dies before placing white board over top
e) Roll through your wizard to create embossed look
f) Cut around image OR cut using die cut system (your square nestabilities)

Note: Even if you don’t have a wizard or nestabilities, you can create a similar look by cutting two squares (one large and one slightly smaller) over top of each other for a layered look.

Part B
Cut out a tag using the tag die cut by Spellbinders. (Again, you can create your own tag using a corner rounder, a hole punch and a paper strip—not die cut is necessary). Stamp joy sentiment using brown ink. Cut to preferred length.

Part C
Then stamp your tree image in the centre of the embossed square.

Part C - Detail
Colour the stem using your brown marker.

Part C - Detail
Highlight the image (trace around the trees) using a light grey marker.

Step Three
Choose an assortment of colours from your MochaChica and Scrapblock Layers paper packs. I chose 1) MochaChica: quarter short, mintberry crush, morning blend, and cocomocha 2) Scrapblock Layers: green and stamp tree image and ornaments using brown ink. When you are finished you should have cut out 4 tree sets from 4 difference pieces of paper and 6 ornaments.

Also cut the second layer of each card 4x5.25. You should have 4 when you are finished.

Cut a 1.5x 4.5 inch paper strip for your ornament card. You should have two when you are finished.

Step Three - Detail

Step Four
Cut images out and apply pink stickles (or glitter with glue) to the hearts. Set aside and let dry for a few minutes.
Step Five
Prepare ribbon treatments—cut to 5.25 inches and adhere to the back of the second layer (see cards for placement eg. Tree card is approx in centre while ornament card has ribbon placed to the left). Using a 4 inch piece, tie “knot bow”.

Note: I added the tag to the polka dot ribbon treatment using hemp twine
Step Six- (for Tree Cards Only)
Place your paper pieces trees on the stamped tree image (square nestabilities cut out) using pop dots. I varied mine so that every other one pops up.
Step Seven
Adhere all layers. For placement, refer to cards.
