We had some curious stampers after I posted this card called A Moment in Time using the Distress Ink Burnt Edge Technique.

This technique was developed by Tim Holtz and is shared with permission. Visit his blog and website for endless inspiration and education! www.timholtz.com

I hope you enjoy!

Supplies needed to create a Distress Ink Burnt Edge:

Step One
Ink entire tag with Cut n’ Dry Foam inked with Antique Linen Distress Ink Stamp Pad. Use a circular motion to create even coverage.
Step Two
Ink the edge of the tag with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, then Walnut Stain. (You can just use on of them if that is all you have.)

To get even application of ink, start applying ink from the outside edge of the paper, working the foam in a circular motion and moving inward. With each color, you will not be going in as far, creating a gradation of light to dark tones.
Step Three
Apply Black Soot direct from stamp pad to edge of tag.
Step Four
You will see little beads of ink on the edge of the tag.
Step Five
Place tag on Craft Sheet or scratch paper and pull ink from tag edge inward with Cut n’ Dry Foam.
Step Six
Distress edge with a paper distresser. Drag Black Soot Ink Pad along the edge of the torn tag to re-ink the white that has been exposed.
Finished Project
When you have finished "burning the edge" of your paper, you can stamp and embellish the piece as desired. If you are planning to stamp the base layer, you may want to do that before distressing the edges.

I finished my tag by stamping the Lined Paper Backgrounder with Black Soot and then punching the "holes" out with a Crop-o-dile. The ticket and sentiment were stamped on a separate tag, cut out and inked with Old Paper ink.

The crown is from the Plain Grungeboard Elements pack and was painted with Pitch Black Adirondack Paint Dabber, then embellished with Mushroom Dimensional Pearls by Ranger.

The clock is a Heidi Swapp Ghost Shape and adhered to the tag using the same Dimensional Pearls on the backside. The hands of the clock (from the Time to Stamp set) were stamped on the clock face with Pitch Black Paint Dabber as well.

Option: try other color combinations of Distress Ink, but always finish with using Black Soot and the Paper Distresser.

Alright stampers, you can do this! Go get the Distress Inks that you just bought on sale here at CHF and do some faux paper burning!!

Great tag Dawn! Have you tried white core card in you label maker? Give it a light sanding after punching the letters and you have white lettering (and usually a few scuffs around the edges which looks cool too).
