One look around the internet or your local stamp/scrapbooking store will reveal that clear albums and embellishments are quite popular. Perhaps it is because clear goes with everything or can be easily altered to suite your project. Whatever it is, they are “clearly” fun to work with!
This week I want to share a great product on the store, Crystal Clear Acrylic Embellishments. There are a vareity of different packages of embellishments available in shapes like buttons, tags, flowers, flourishes and more plus some individual ones.
These embellishments are lightweight and thin (thickness of 0.040-0.060 inches) so you don’t’ need to worry about bulk, but they are stronger and more flexible than ordinary acrylic. You can punch a hole in them without worrying that they will break. They are laser cut giving them very smooth edges and the surface accepts inks very well.
When you open the package, you will find that both sides of the embellishment have a paper backing on them. This paper keeps your piece in pristine condition until you are ready to use it. Simply peel off the paper backing and it’s ready to go.
Here are some ideas for how to work with these clear embellishments:
- Stamp on them with solvent inks like Stazon
- Emboss on them using Versamark and embossing powder
- Use with rub-ons
- Apply glitter glue onto the front or back for different effects
- Color with alcohol inks (pads or bottled)
- Color with permanent markers like Sharpies or Copic’s
- Use a clear drying glue to adhere a photo or pattern paper to either side
- Edge the pieces with a metallic leafing pen
- Accent your cards or scrapbook pages with minimal bulk
- Create tags for gifts
- Punch holes in them (the Crop-o-Dile works well), use brads, eyelets or ribbon to attach to your project.
- Use both sides for added dimension (stamp on the front, color on the back)
- Use the larger pieces to make ornaments, luggage tags, keychains, and more
- Accent with adhesive rhinestones or pearls
I have had so much fun experimenting with these embellishments! Here are several samples to inspire you…
Custom Button Embellishment
Embossed and colored with Copic Markers
Stazon and Gold Krylon Leafing pen
Luggage Tag
Tips:
- If you make a mistake while stamping with Stazon, use the Stazon cleaner to wipe it off and start again!
- Keep a pair of tweezers handy while embossing so you don’t burn your fingers
- Lightly sand the surface for a different effect _________________ my blog: www.inky-doodles.blogspot.com
