This time of year brings to mind all the bounty of the season. Being thankful for all we have and are given should be our focus. Thanksgiving holidays help bring this to the forefront of our minds.
Today, my project is simple. I've created a journal to count my blessings. They are fast to make and perfect to create in multiples for teachers, friends and family. I plan to keep this by my bedside to help me keep gratitude in mind through my day.
Grab your stamps and a few simple supplies to make your own! And before I forget, I have to say that I'm thankful for everyone that joins us each week!
Basic Supplies
- Stamps
- Ink
- Cardstock
- Color media
- Notebook / Journal from Dollar Store
- Ribbon or Twill tape
- Dies and Die-cutting machine
- Paint and foam brush
- Strong adhesive
- Heat gun (optional)

Step One
Carefully pull apart the wires of the journal and remove the front and back cover.
Set the wire-paper section aside.
Step Two
Depending on the finish of your journal cover, lightly sand the edges of the cover to ready the surface for paint. My journal cover had a slick coated finish. Without sanding, the paint would have easily chipped.
Paint the edges of your cover - inside and out. You may need to paint multiple times to get coverage. You can use a heat gun to gently help this dry faster. Be careful not to overheat, as you can bubble or pucker the paint.
Set aside to completely dry.
If your cover is simple and matches the design of your project, you can omit this step.
Step Three
Stamp images from the Fall Harvest (ATC) set to use as embellishments to your journal.
Step Four
Color your images and carefully trim from your cardstock. Ink with Old Paper and Vintage Photo Distress inks.
Step Five
Using a strong adhesive, adhere your cardstock or patterned paper to the covers. Each project's dimensions will depend on the size of your notebook and how much of your painted edge you'd like to have visible.
Step Six
Putting the outsides (or "good" sides) of your covers together, slide back onto the wires of the journal. Press the wires togethers with your fingers or pliers.
Finished Project
Adhere all your embellishments to the front of your journal.
