"Snail Mail Kit"

Description: For this challenge I used the Small Snail from the Spring Trees Stamp Set. I stamped him over and over again on a 81/2 x 11 sheet of white cardstock and then coloured each stamped image in with copics and added a little stickels for some sparkle. I then cut it up and created a box to hold some matching cards in. I used the Mailbox from the Hugs and Kisses Stamp set as well on the front of the box. Now with this little snail... Description: -Image is colored with Prismacolor pencils, baby oil and paper stumps for blending; same technique as Gamsol, just substituting baby oil for Gamsol. -I masked off the lower edge of the image panel with sticky notes to ink distress and sponge on the sky. -All edges but the black on the card front are ink distressed, also the left side on the inside and the edges of the envelope front. -Diamond Glaze was used to attach the Gems from Hero Arts. -Art Glitter adhesive is used to apply the Stampin Up Dazzling Diamonds on the mushrooms. -The image panel and ovals are mounted on foam tape. -For the envelope: it measures 4 5/8 x 6 ¾”, I cut a piece of cardstock 1/16” smaller both ways. Placed the 4 ½” card on the cardstock and ran a strip of glue about 3/8” away from the card on each side and inserted it in the envelope so. This will prevent the card from moving around and keeps the envelope sturdy through the mail system and it won’t cost any extra postage because it isn’t square! Description: We needed to use the iron for Joanne’s Way to Use it challenge on SCS and I first did a crayon resist on glossy paper and during the process one of those crazy ideas popped into my head and I went for it! So I’ll explain what I did. -Emboss regular flat white cardstock (mine has a texture to it just because I was using scraps). -Heat the iron, hold upside down and lay aluminum foil on it. -Hold the crayon to the foil and do a little square of one color then move on to the next color and try not to overlap the colors; this is to avoid a muddy look. Also try not to puddle your melted wax to minimize the amount that will run down to the lower level of the embossed panel. I used pink, light green and yellow. I also moved the foil on the iron to color an area as large as the cardstock panel. -Once you have the foil colored, take it from the iron and lie it crayon side to cardstock then press the iron onto the foil. Move the iron over the entire piece of cardstock but keep the foil secured or it’ll give you muddy colors. -That’s it, now left the iron and you’re ready to finish your card. -Images are colored with Prismacolor pencils, baby oil and paper stumps and the sky is added with my handmade cloud template and sponging. The template is actually a piece of acetate from a package of supplies…maybe one of the Cuttlebug items was packaged in it, don’t remember for sure as I’ve made a few of them to give away. -Ribbon is loosely tied first, secure the knot to the cardstock; I used Memory Zots, cut to the length needed and tape to the back side. -Flower are also colored with Prismacolor pencils, paper sculpted, layered and either a brad was attached or a punched circle was glued on with Diamond Glaze added to the center after it was assembled. Memory Zots holds the largest flower to the cardstock and tacky glue was used for the smaller flowers. -To avoid extra bulk from the embossing I only embossed the ends of the narrow white panel. Description: -Prismacolor pencil, baby oil and paper stumps were used for the image colors. -To make the patchwork I used a one sided sticky paper to mount the pieces on and kept one narrow edge even then cut the other edges on the paper cutter; it goes together quicker to fuss with only one edge. -Faux stitching is done where the two different papers meet using a marker and mat pack. I sponged Sahara Sand on the fence which is a textured white cardstock. Description: -I used the negative embossing technique for the Cuttlebug embossing, check the Techniques Challenge master thread for directions. -Prismacolor pencils, baby oil and paper stumps for coloring the image and the punched flowers. Image is mounted on foam tape. -Paper sculpting was done on the flowers and black centers. Description: -I added just a touch of color to the images with Prismacolor pencils. The grass is a thirty second freehand. -Piercing is done using the Stampin Up mat pack and Making Memories piercer. I do secure the template to the card with reposition tape (mine is blue painter’s tape found at the hardware store). -Score lines are done using the Scor-Pal. -I added a paper insert cut ¼” smaller than the card both ways to cover the piercing inside. Description: My bunny was masked off to stamp the flowers. I keep my masked stored with the image or in a binder so it doesn’t need to be cut each time.
